…you drew me in. With your colors, your life. Your chaos. Your scents. Your beauty. Your inspiration. I knew I would like you – I just didn’t think I would fall in love with you. And I’m so happy I did. So happy you opened up to me. I can’t wait to discover you more.
The initial reason for this trip was the wonderful wedding of Sarah and Alain, who really made a dream come true for us! Then we decided to make it a getaway and enjoy Marrakech for a little longer than the usual 3-day-wedding trip.
Our first stop was the award-winning La Mamounia , who kindly invited us to stay for a few days. It was a wonderful calm oasis to retreat to after the chaos of the Medina. The Mamounia has a beautiful blend of moroccan and british decor – no wonder, since Churchill himself used to stay here. We loved their beautiful grounds, the luxurious rooms and their amazing staff. It’s the perfect honeymoon destination if you ask me! In fact, their rooms make it really hard to leave the bed, to be honest. All of its wonderful people made our stay truly memorable, relaxing and happy.
During our week in Marrakech we walked a lot, because that is really the best way to get around inside the Medina, the old part of the city. On one day we also checked out the new part of Marrakech, which was a nice change of paste after the craziness of the Souks.
But exploring and getting lost in the Medina, is probably one of the best things when you are in Marrakech. It was definitely one of my favorite experiences. The colors, the inspiration, the beauty – they are endless in this place. Coming back home pained me so much after this trip, and I’m so glad I have all these explosions of beauty in my head and on my hard drives.
We also spent a few nights at the Riad Chocolat, a beautiful Riad in a quite part of the Medina, that is not very touristy – and we loved it! The owners, Nicky and Eric are two exquisite hosts, that help you with anything, from getting around in Morocco, to bargaining the best price for handbags – they got it down! Pay them a visit if you happen to be in Marrakech, they will delight you! And they are one of the reasons I would go back in a heartbeat.
If you’d like to see a few Behind The Scenes, you can watch our Marrakech Vlog that went up yesterday! And here are my favorite visual memories of a week I will never forget….
