The All New Workshop

Good things need time – and this has been in the cooking for OVER A YEAR! And I am so excited to present it to you today!

In May 2012 I did my last workshop and after that one I told myself I would never give  a workshop again if I didn’t find a way to do it MY WAY. I wasn’t happy to put it mildly – but why? It wasn’t that the workshops were not “successful” – The workshops I’ve given in the past were not bad, they were received with great enthusiasm and positive feedback. But even though people were raving about them – I wasn’t happy.

But how do you measure success?  Is it measured by what others say about you?  I found that this is a lie. At least for me.

Success is when I am in line with my values and beliefs. In line with myself and what is most important to me. When you are in the Business (any kind of Business) it’s easy to get carried away, make compromises and do things just because “that’s how you do it” or because others do it.

For me, that was the case with Workshops. People requested them – I did them. The way that I saw it others do. But I wasn’t happy with it. Looking at the Workshop Culture left me frustrated – it just wasn’t right for me.

If success is being in line with my values and beliefs – what did I believe about teaching? About my photography? About business?

I yearned for something else. I couldn’t be at peace with telling people how I do stuff and then seeing them trying to apply the same things into their business but it not working out for them. There was something terribly off about it. How do you “inspire” people without making them into “mini-you’s”?

I swore myself, if I could not come up with a different way of doing things, I would not give any more workshops. I haven’t given any workshops since May 2012. This workshop – free time was very valuable to me. I thought and planned and wrote. Wrote a lot. And talked to others. I dreamed a lot.

I dreamed up my dream workshop: A place that would be safe. Where finding out what is your style would feel like coming home. Like someone finally set you free and you could be who you want to be. Because that is what happened to me. I did a lot of dreaming! And then it was born: a new idea. A new concept. A new workshop. But I was (still am) afraid. Afraid that it was too much. Not what people wanted. And how do you bring the “right” people to this kind of workshop? How do you explain something you understood deep down in your heart, but something that is so hard to explain to others?

To make it short: I hosted a workshop this year, but nobody knew about it : ) Apart from the 5 people in it. They had inquired about a workshop a while back and I picked them to be my guinea pigs.  I knew I needed some kind of material to show you what this workshop would look like BEFORE it officially started.

Because this workshop is not for everyone. And I had to make that clear. That’s why I needed to host one of these workshops first, without the public knowing about it : )

This group was amazing. I still cannot quite believe how well they connected and how close we grew. It is crazy: you throw a few people together for 3 days and you don’t know what happens. They are all different, all from different backgrounds, with different stories – and then they become friends. It was the most amazing thing for me during this workshop. It’s been over 2 months, but still to this day, everybody posts in our Facebook group every day. We will even meet soon for a little reunion. That’s how close we got.

Let me tell you: It was tough. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we exchanged so much of ourselves and invested so much of our hearts – and it was so rewarding.

So what is it about? What can you expect of these 2 days?

– 2 very full days of talking, interacting, opening up and discovering who you are and what your style is

– living together

– Find the foundation of your business

– Understanding the importance of knowing who you are

– includes personal one-one-time with me

– includes alone time to shoot (no one watching and shooting over your head)

– get to know each other

– Find your own artistic voice

– it will be for only 5 attendees!

– I will only and exclusively host 2 of these workshops per year. That’s it.

If  you are not ready to open up yourself, to dig deep into who you are. If you mainly want to know what I do – than this Workshop is NOT for you! Let me warn you, this time is intense. It is challenging and it is not easy. But you will walk away with a assertive knowledge of who you are and where your business should be headed.

This little video made by Marco Dueck is meant to give you a little insight into what our days looked like:

This is what the 5 amazing people had to say about their experience:

“There are moments in life,  that you don’t forget, not even after days and weeks and months. You can’t  quite grasp them because they were such a special cornerstone in your life. Getting to know Nadia as a person and this whole group was one of those moments. The workshop days were intense, emotional, informative, challenging and overwhelming. We laughed, we cried – it was a roller coaster. The workshop was a trigger for me.” Juliane

“This Workshop was challenging, encouraging and unique. I loved being part of such a small and intimate group. We had enough time to get to know each other and you were not one of many but one of an exclusive group of a few. The concept of the workshop is not what you have seen before and not what you imagine, but it was the right thing for me. I think we live in a world where too many people chase something that they are not, compare themselves to others and chase something that they are not. Not enough people truly follow their passion and live out the talents and gifts that God has given them. Thank you Nadia and Eddy (Master Chef!) for an UNFORGETTABLE Workshop!” Mario

“Nadias Workshop was something completely new to me. It was not your typical ex-cathedra teaching with the following mass-photoshoot of people pushing each other around to take the best photos. I couldn’t imagine anything more horrible. Nadia and Eddy created such an affectionate atmosphere!   The Workshop awakened something in me that I would describe as a seed: first, it falls in the ground, then you have to water it and nourish it; you have to engage with it  and then after some time, you will have a delicate plant. And if you stay consequent, and work on it, you will have a big tree one day, and that is great.

I am so happy to have been a part of something so meaningful and new. I will keep on nourishing the new things I discovered like a seed. Thank you Nadia!” Jelena

„First of all: it was so different from what I expected! I am so thankful to Nadia for these days, for the exchanged words and for the community!

Up til now I only knew about I only knew the competition in this business, I didn’t know about the solidarity and love, about the exchange of ideas, inspiration and feelings – I was so surprised to experience something so positive and I have changed my mind about workshops when it comes to that!

This Workshop is not “easy” – it was tough! It is challenging to think about yourself in such an intense way, but it was absolutely worth it!  I accept now more than before who I am –  after all, there is only one me! And it doesn’t make sense to try to be somebody else, I know this now more then ever! The Workshop was very emotional for me, it was hard to face the not-so-pretty things in my life, but they are a part of me. And my story influences my work and my pictures. I became aware of who I am and what I don’t want – and incredible experience. Thank you Nadia!” Saskia

„It was an unforgettable experience to be a part of this workshop! A small group of 5 people, far away from the outside world and all the noise…no cell reception and other things from your every day life. 3 days full to the brim: collective breakfast, lunch, dinner and conversation that lasted til late at night. We really made new friends during this time.

The Workshop was a major gain for my inner self. It was a motivation to continue and hang in there. To do what I personally like and what makes me happy. Often times you need someone that helps you to realize that and opens your eyes. Someone that helps you to be honest to yourself. Nadia was this person for me. She helped me see what defines me and what I stand for. And to do just that. Thank you so much Nadia for these unforgettable days that will stay with me forever. This workshop will help me to look away from others and listen to my heart…” Björn

    Dear Nadia,

PLEASE, make this workshop in English… this is something I really want to do. I was reading and thinking: she made this for me! But my German is not good enought to go that deep….

    Hi Nadia!

I’m in love with your idea of a workshop. I’ve spent hours in search of an experience like the one you’re offering and nothing comes close. I’m awaiting your plans for a workshop in english. Is there a chance you could share with me an approximate date that it might take place? If not I’ll be sure to keep my eye on your blog.
